Spartacus: Blood and Sand 6-Part Prequel Slated for Jan 2011

If you haven't heard the news yet, Starz, the TV network responsible for one of the best shows on TV, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, is currently working on a 6-Part Prequel for Spartacus which will focus on the rise of the House of Batiatus and its champions before Spartacus.

It is currently slated to air in January 2011.

Here's the story from Deadline.com:

Starz Starts On 6-Part 'Spartacus' Prequel
May 11, 2010 – Pre-production is underway on a six-part prequel to Starz’ hit original series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.”

Lucy Lawless and John Hannah take center stage in this story of the rise of the House of Batiatus and its champions before Spartacus arrives as a captured Thracian slave. With the title still to be determined, the prequel will begin production this summer in New Zealand, and is slated to air on Starz in January 2011.

“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” was the highest rated show for the 18-49 demographic among all cable networks for 12 of the 13 Fridays on which it aired based on coverage rating.

This is great news!

I know they were delayed a few weeks in the filming of season 2 for Spartacus due to Andy Whitfield's treatments for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. So it's great to see that they're producing something to fill the gap during this time.

For those who've read my previous posts in regards to Spartacus ("Spartacus: Blood and Sand" is Crazy!! and SPARTACUS! SPARTACUS! SPARTACUS! SPARTACUS!), you know that I was really interested in seeing how Doctore earned his stripes, and I'm betting that will be covered in this prequel.

Again, if you haven't watched Sparatacus yet, you definitely should. Just make sure no children watch it with you.
